Description

When performing analyses in complex computing environments, engineers can quickly become overwhelmed by tasks such as copying or deleting files and worrying about memory and disk space allocation. One of the most common causes of fatal runs, and time loss, is inadequate disk space. Yet, many times there is sufficient disk space that has not been properly managed and is therefore inaccessible. These types of problems frustrate engineers, add cost to projects, and increase a product's time-to-market. In today's networked computing environments, engineers frequently do their modeling on local workstations. They then submit their analysis jobs to servers or other licensed workstations. When submitting an analysis job, engineers have many options available to them; they can, for example, choose from multiple platforms and various queues. However, the resources available to each job are not equal. They differ based on the amount of disk space, memory, system speed, cost of computing resources, and number of users. Analysis Manager is an application module, which provides productive analysis management from within MSC.Patran 2003. It also runs in a purely stand alone mode. Analysis Manager automates the process of using remote and dissimilar platforms. It automatically ensures that files are copied to where they are needed during an analysis. After the analysis, files are then transferred back to the user or deleted--even in heterogeneous computing environments. As a result, more time is available for productive engineering tasks and less time is spent performing system maintenance. Both network managers and engineers benefit from Analysis Manager. It allows local and corporate computing resources to be used efficiently. It enables network managers to reduce the number of fatal runs and to balance and control resource use. With information provided by network managers, engineers are then better able to manage jobs and achieve goals more effectively using existing resources. This saves both time and money. Analysis Manager replaces difficult, text-oriented submission scripts with a Motif-based, menu-driven interface, allowing engineers to submit and control analysis jobs with point-and-click ease. No programming is required. Consequently, the user is able to productively employ Analysis Manager after only a short demonstration
