MICRESS 7.2

Description

MICRESS 7.2

MICRESS 7.2: Multiphase-Field Microstructure Evolution Simulation Software

MICRESS 7.2 is the latest release of the industry-leading microstructure evolution simulation software, based on the multiphase-field concept developed by ACCESS scientists since 1995. Released in May 2023, this version introduces major input syntax changes from 6.4 (with conversion tools provided), new simulation capabilities, and expanded thermodynamic database support .

Key New Features in MICRESS 7.2

Major Input Syntax Update

  • 6.4 to 7.2 Conversion: New conversion tool transforms 6.4 driving files to 7.2 format; handles reordering of blocks and input shifts introduced in version 7.0

  • Mirrored Input Files: Generated *.in files contain pretty-printed 7.2 syntax for easier editing

  • Conversion Logging: Check logs for errors/warnings; use "Check 6.4" to identify problematic syntax

New Simulation Modules and Capabilities

  • Stress Module: Mechanical stress/strain effects on microstructure evolution

  • Flow Module: Fluid flow coupling for solidification and phase transformations

  • Parallel Performance: Improved multi-threading for faster large-scale simulations

Expanded Materials Support

  • New Databases: Extended thermodynamic database compatibility (TC-Al, TC-Fe, MOB-Al, MOB-Fe)

  • Model Parameters: Direct usage of Thermo-Calc and other TQ-coupled databases

  • Kinetic Models: NPLE, para-equilibrium, and ParaTQ options for multi-component alloys

Enhanced Physics Models

  • Anisotropy Models: Improved crystallographic symmetry handling

  • Nucleation Models: Seed-density and heterogeneous nucleation with special orientation relationships

  • Temperature Solvers: New Temp1d solver for coupled thermal-microstructure problems

  • Phase Interaction Options: Enhanced diffuse interface modeling for eutectic/peritectic reactions
