Description

ANSYS, Inc. first introduced electromagnetics analysis capability in 1983 with the ANSYS/EMAG3D product. ANSYS/EMAG3D originally included only electrostatic, magnetostatic and Low Frequency electromagnetic capability. High Frequency electromagnetic elements were added to ANSYS/EMAG3D at release 5.4 in 1997. The ANSYS/EMAG3D product was made available as a stand-alone product, and as an add-on to the ANSYS/Mechanical product. All of the ANSYS/EMAG3D capability was exposed in the ANSYS/Multiphysics product. At release 5.7 (Q4 2000) the High Frequency Electromagnetics capability was removed from the EMAG3D product into a new stand alone physics module, tentatively called ANSYS/EMAG HF. This module was actually never made commercially available, instead it morphed into the ANSYS Emax project. ANSYS Emax used an ICEM CFD GUI and ANSYS Multiphysics solvers to provide an easier to use subset of the ANSYS Multiphysics HF Emag capability. The first Emax product released was called AI*EMAX 6.0 (January 2002). Fo release 7.0 in November 2002 the product was called ANSYS EMAX, and this was further refined into ANSYS Emax 7.1 in May 2003. The last release of ANSYS Emax was 8.0 in October 2003. For release 8.1 onwards (April 2004), ANSYS Multiphysics is the only ANSYS, Inc. product that has HF Emag capability. ANSYS EMAG3D was renamed ANSYS Emag from release 7.1 onwards, and this product continues as our Low Frequency electromagnetics ANSYS product. It can be bolted on as an enabled task to ANSYS Mechanical and ANSYS Structural
