PADS VX.2.14 Release Highlights - Date: September 2023

This is primarily a release aimed at adding new functionality and fixing customers' logged defects - Service Requests (SRs). The following new products, features, and enhancements are introduced in the PADS VX.2.14 release.
PADS AMS
PADS AMS includes the following improvements in release VX.2.14.
SPICE Syntax Checker
Updated syntax checks for all MOSFET model levels, .PARAM statements, parameter distributions, and .OPTION commands. Model files embedded in a simulation netlist are checked. Encrypted Eldo models are ignored. Also includes enhanced PSpice model detection - if a PSpice model is detected, the user is instructed to use the PSpice Converter tool.
SPICE .EXTRACT Command
Support added for temperature sweep and Monte Carlo simulations, and for extracting/post-processing of frequency domain (AC) analysis results.
Tutorial Updates
This release includes new and updated tutorials. New tutorials: Global Parameters and Passing Parameters; Setting Initial Conditions. Updated tutorials: Temperature Handling; Convergence Help. All tutorials are available from the Help > AMS Tutorials > Tutorial Index menu option.
HyperLynx DRC - Overview
HyperLynx DRC adds some important new functionality and defect fixes. The sections below provide details on some of the new capabilities.
New Functionality
- Area Crop - Users can now crop specific part of the design by specifying nets or components. Enables a reduction in design data size, optimizing performance. Multiple engineers can work in parallel, each focusing on their specific area, streamlining project completion. This functionality can be accessed via both the Wizard and AOM.
New Rules
- Via Length Rule - Introducing a new rule that assesses and ensures the maximum total via length for a net is within specified limits.
Rule Enhancements
- Creepage Rules - Users can now specify which layers to be checked or ignored, granting more granular control. Violation drawings have been updated to use an outline representation instead of filled geometry. This change enhances visibility and clarity in design reviews.
- Acute Angle - The rule has been enhanced to assess angles formed with arcs, supplementing the existing checks on straight traces.
Other Major Improvements
- Creepage Engine Enhancement - Now supports measuring between any layers. Previously restricted to measuring between top and bottom layers only
HyperLynx SI/PI/Thermal - Overview
This release contains improvements in SERDES analysis, EDM integration, and ongoing support for DDR5 analysis.
SERDES
- Usability improvements for jitter - more intuitive display of model-defined jitter parameters and user-defined jitter parameters
- Support for raised cosine filter model parameters
DDRx
- Support for DDR5 RDIMMs
- Inclusion for generic models for DDR5 TX and RX
- Improved HTML reports with fewer/consolidated tabs
Automation Enhancements
- Board Traces
. Segment.Impedance
. Segment.Delay
. Segment.Capacitance
. Segment.CalcElecProps ()
. Segment.Width is now writeable
. Net.SetTraceWidth (width)
. Net.Update () to be used after changing width
- Stackup
. Stackup.Export (fileName)
App Explorer Enhancements
- Board Viewer
. Major improvements to import and rendering performance
- DC Drop Enhancements
. Support more complex topologies with multiple nets
- Preserve input design file
. Allows importing design from command line (or Xpedition) and preserve the imported design between apps (when choosing a new App).
- General
. Better help behavior
New Cloud-Based Documentation Access in the PADS VX.2.14 Release
The PADS VX.2.14 release provides an improved method to access your Siemens Digital Industries Software product documentation. The default option serves your product documentation from Support Center, giving you immediate access to the latest release-specific documentation, enhanced search of HTML and PDF files, and (if you use translated documentation) multi-language search. This option also eliminates the requirement to install product documentation as part of the local software installation.
