Description

CDEGS Introducing the CDEGS Software Package: Integrated Software for Power System Grounding/Earthing, Electromagnetic Fields and Electromagnetic Interference The CDEGS software package (Current Distribution, Electromagnetic Fields, Grounding and Soil Structure Analysis) is a powerful set of integrated engineering software tools designed to accurately analyze problems involving grounding/earthing, electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic interference including AC/DC interference mitigation studies and various aspects of cathodic protection and anode bed analysis with a global perspective, starting literally from the ground up. CDEGS computes conductor currents and electromagnetic fields generated by an arbitrary network of energized conductors anywhere above or below ground for normal, fault, lightning and transient conditions. CDEGS models simple and multi-component conductors, including bare, coated pipes and pipe-enclosed cable systems buried in complex soil structures. CDEGS and its subpackages, coupled with toll-free support from the world's leading R&D design team in these specialties, provide you with an array of cost-effective solutions for problems ranging from simple grounding grid designs to the behavior of complex networks of aboveground and buried conductors energized by lightning or other transients. By providing you with a powerful drawing tool and allowing you to exchange graphical data with AutoCAD and other software supporting DXF, CDEGS makes data entry enjoyable. Flexible data reporting and graphing utilities allow you to collect and illustrate any aspect of the results that are important for your work. Whether you are confronted with a complex grounding design, EMF studies, electromagnetic compatibility and interference problems or a lightning/surge study, you can rely on CDEGS accurate, powerful and integrated software components for a realistic, optimized solution. Extensive scientific validation of the software using field tests and comparisons with analytical or published research results, have been conducted for over thirty years. The validation, conducted by SES as well as other independent researchers, is documented in hundreds of technical papers published in the most reputed international journals. The CDEGS software package SES started the development of the CDEGS software package in 1972, with the creation of the MALT engineering module. Since that time, CDEGS has undergone steady growth and refinement. It is composed of eight engineering modules RESAP, MALT, MALZ, TRALIN, SPLITS, HIFREQ, FCDIST, and FFTSES. CDEGS also includes input and output processors and utilities (e.g., import or export tools to CAD software, graphic servers, text editors, etc.). Briefly stated, CDEGS capabilities are: Soil resistivity analysis and soil structure interpretation. Grounding analysis: arbitrary soil structures; any frequency & transients. Line constants for overhead and buried conductors or complex pipe-enclosed cable arrangements. Load, fault & transient current distribution (in neutrals, shields, etc.). Cathodic protection analysis of complex buried networks. Inductive, conductive and capacitive interference in shared corridors. Frequency and time domain analysis of electromagnetic fields generated by arbitrarily energized conductor networks (substations, transmission & distribution lines, industrial plants, etc.). The complete CDEGS package is made of twelve integrated software packages: The complete CDEGS package is made of twelve main integrated software packages, three specialized packages and several software tools and utilities. The main packages are: AutoGround, MultiGround, MultiGround+, MultiGroundZ, MultiGroundZ+, MultiFields, MultiFields+, MultiFieldsPro, MultilLines, AutoGridPro, AutoGroundDesign and Right-Of-Way. AutoGround and MultiGround are specialized for low frequency grounding / earthing analysis and design, while MultiFields is dedicated to frequency domain and transient grounding, electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic field computations. MultiLines is ideal for computing line parameters (line constants) of most conductors, including complex buried and above ground pipe-type cables. MultiFields+, MultiGround+ and MultiGroundZ+ include the MultilLines package, which consists of FCDIST, TRALIN and SPLITS engineering modules. These last two modules are required to determine electric interference levels along utility rights-of-way. The three specialized packages are: SESShield-3D, SESEnviro and SESTLC. The software tools and utilities are: SES-Ampacity, AutoTransient, CETU, GraRep, GRServer, GRSplits, SESBatch, SESCAD, SESGSE, SESImpedance, SESScript, SESShield, SoilModelManager, SESSystemViewer, ROWCAD and TransposIT. The AutoGround and MultiGround packages include the dedicated grounding / earthing software package AutoGrid Pro as well as the fully automated specialized grounding / earthing package AutoGroundDesign that can design a grounding system without user's intervention. The relationship between the input and output processors and the engineering modules is illustrated in the figure below.
