Under the name Deltares systems, our hydro software is currently used worldwide in more than 70 countries. It covers our whole sphere of expertise including coastal waters, estuaries and lakes (Delft3D) as well as rivers, irrigation and drainage systems, urban water management (SOBEK) and pressurized pipeline systems (WANDA). Ready-to-use software and models are important means for the transfer of knowledge in tangible form. Deltares develops and distributes software for many aspects of the broad field of delta technology; for instance hydrology, hydraulics, morphology and water quality. Excellent software by cooperation We believe in strengthening and complementing our position and that of our partners by forming alliances between relevant institutes, universities and companies worldwide, sharing our latest scientific developments. To enhance cooperation, Deltares is developing software with an open architecture, applying widely used open standards and open software libraries. In many of our products, these standards are already used. This makes it possible to combine our efforts and software with those of our partners in developing new concepts, delta technological solutions for societal problems, better information and forecasting systems. Open source policy For true collaboration in developing better software based on the latest scientific developments, we choose an open source policy. A major step has been to go open source with the D-Flow, D-Morphology and D-Waves programs of Delft3D. We give detailed access to our knowledge. Open source is our invitation to all leading experts to collaborate to extend the scientific quality and application of Delft3D.
