Description

SDS 2 Design Data V7.2 Design Data, a leading provider of 3D detailing and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software, announced a new integration between its SDS/2 software solutions and Autodesk® Revit® Structure. The collaboration — which will be demonstrated for the first time at NASCC: The Steel Conference in Pittsburgh, Pa., May 11-14 — streamlines the BIM workflow with new technology and interoperability. More robust than an IFC exchange, the collaboration will result in truly seamless transfers of building information modeling (BIM) data. Through this integration, automated connection design is widely available to the AEC industry inside the tools they are accustomed to using for BIM projects. Now Revit users can seamlessly transfer their models and connections to the steel detailers on the project using SDS/2's intelligent connection design. This level of interoperability will preserve the architect's and engineer's information in a way that maintains the accuracy necessary for steel detailing and manufacturing—enhancing the BIM work process. SDS/2 Compatible with Microsoft Windows 7 When Microsoft® Windows® 7 is released on October 22, 2009, SDS/2 users will be able to seamlessly switch to the new operating system without losing any functionality in the software. SDS/2 versions 7.1 and 7.2 have both been successfully installed and tested on the new operating system. Testing was also completed between two machines with the SDS/2 data directory — one running Windows 7 and one running on a previous version of the operating system. The next releases of SDS/2 will have the updated installs for Windows 7. Before installing, please note: * The install now recognizes Windows 7 and asks the user about changing permissions so the “Users” group will be able to write SDS/2 data files * A fresh install (no existing data directory for this major version) will default the data files to the “ProgramData” directory instead of “Program Files” Current SDS/2 users who may have questions about the compatibility between SDS/2 and Windows 7 should contact their Design Data support representative.
