esign Explorer is an integrated tool of the AVL Wo rkspace, which provides an easy to use workflow to define, run and evaluate DoE and optimization tasks with simulation programs of the AVL Workspace. It is a user-friendly and cost-efficient solution t o investigate the dependencies between model parameters and simulation results and to improve th e quality of the design by using one of the optimization algorithms. Applications The main applications supported by the Design Explorer are: • Design optimization • Sensitivity analysis • Parameter identification In order to gain reasonable run–through times when performing DOEs or certain types of optimizations (stochastic optimizations, multi- target optimizations) it is often required to run many jobs in parallel. This is supported by optional bulk licenses for the AWS programs and program solution packs which enables several jo bs to run on the same AWS in parallel for a more favourable license cost than with standard licenses . Capabilities and features Design of Experiments (DoE) Design of Experiments is either used to analyze the influence of model parameters on the response parameters of a simulation model or to find a good starting point for the optimization process. The Design Explorer supports the following methods: • Full factorial design • Orthogonal arrays • Latin hypercube design • Sobol sequence Optimization The optimization methods provided support local and global optimization problems and optimization problems with single or multiple objectives.
