Petrel 2010.1 Distribution
Petrel 2010.1 is distributed from the Petrel website:
Petrel 2010.1 comes in two versions: 32-bit and 64-bit. You can install these versions on the following types of workstations:
• Petrel 32-bit
- Microsoft® Windows XP® Professional (32-bit)
- Windows Server® 2003
• Petrel 64-bit
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional (64-bit)
- Windows Vista® Business/Ultimate (64-bit)
Overview
Petrel 2010.1 requires a valid Petrel 2010.1 license to start. You can install and configure your license on your local workstation, or you can use a license on a central license server that your workstation can access.
If you plan to use a local license server, you must install and configure the licensing components yourself.
If you are connecting to a license server on a network, a System/License Administrator will install and configure the licensing components and provide you with the information you need to access a license.
Required License
Items
Before you install and configure your license, make sure that you have the following items:
• WIBU CodeMeter dongle
• Petrel 2010.1 license file

Note: Contact your Schlumberger sales representative if you do not have these items. Or download your license from the following URL: https://support.slb.com.
License Software You will use the following items to install your license configuration software:
• CodeMeter Runtime Kit v4.0 Setup
• Schlumberger Licensing 2010.1 – InstallShield Wizard
Installing CodeMeter v4.0
Petrel 2010.1 uses the CodeMeter dongle for license authentication. The licensing for Petrel does not allow any other means of authentication.
Before you insert your CodeMeter dongle into a USB port on either your local workstation or a central license server, you must install the CodeMeter software.

Important: Even if you connect to a central license server to run Petrel in the office, you must install the CodeMeter software on your laptop if you need to run Petrel from your laptop while traveling.
Mobility
Some companies use enterprise license mobility, where the company purchases one dongle with multiple Petrel license seats and one or more “travel” dongles that have one Petrel license seat each.
The company keeps the dongle with multiple seats inserted in a USB port on the central license server. The “travel” dongles are also inserted in USB ports
on the central license server until they are removed for travel.
A Petrel user will use the central license server when they run Petrel at the office. When traveling, the Petrel user will insert a “travel” dongle into a USB port on his or her laptop and run Petrel using the local license server.
In this case, any Petrel user who will run Petrel 2010.1 while traveling must install the CodeMeter v4.0 software and the Schlumberger licensing 2010.1 utility on his or her laptop.
Although FLEXnet offers the functionality to borrow licenses from your Petrel license server, currently Petrel is not designed to use this functionality.
